Devin Singletary is the starting running back for the New York Giants. Singletary is a key part of Brian Daboll's offense, and he regularly serves as Daniel Jones' safety blanket when opposing teams clog up the passing lanes.
Let's examine Singletary's availability ahead of the Giants' game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Devin Singletary's injury update
According to CBS Sports, Devin Singletary practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday. The veteran running back is dealing with a groin issue going into his side's Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, an AFC powerhouse franchise.
Singletary was limited to one training session last week due to his groin issue. He was initially listed as doubtful for his side's Week 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks before being downgraded to inactive.
On Wednesday, Brian Daboll told ESPN's Jordan Raanan that Singletary is "trending in the right direction." He'll now have two more opportunities this week to register full participation before the team potentially clears him for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Who could replace Devin Singletary?
However, if Devin Singletary isn't able to play in Week 6, the franchise has two other running backs on its active roster: Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Eric Gray.
Rookie RB Tyrone Tracy led the Giants backfield against the Seahawks with a 62% snap share and 19 touches for 130 yards from scrimmage. He was crucial to the team's surprise victory over the then 3-1 Seahawks.
Eric Gray also put up a solid shift. He got seven touches for 54 total yards on 36% of the plays. Gray also serves as an occasional kickoff and punt returner on Brian Daboll's side, further adding to his value on the roster.
The New York Giants will be looking to carry on from their solid showing against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6. The Giants could improve to 3-3 with a win over the Bengals at the MetLife Stadium.
After Week 6, Brian Daboll and Co. have games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers before they embark on their bye week. A couple of wins should ease the pressure on the 2022 AP NFL Head Coach of the Year.
