In Week 17, while playing against the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin experienced an on-field cardiac arrest. The game was put on hold after Damar Hamlin fell on the ground and Monday night's Bills-Bengals game was later canceled by the NFL.

It all happened in the first quarter and CPR had to be performed in order to save his life after the Bills' safety passed out. He was transferred straightaway to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition.

His condition improved significantly and he was discharged from the intensive care unit on January 9th. He was taken to Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute but was released two days later after undergoing a thorough medical evaluation that included cardiac, neurological, and vascular testing.

Damar Hamlin is out of danger but is undergoing different kinds of therapy as he recovers from being intubated for three days. His doctors have claimed that recovery from such life-threatening events usually takes months, but Damar was ahead of it at each stage.

Hamlin is slowly returning to normal life but it is still unclear when he will return to the football field.

Damar Hamlin attended the AFC Divisional round game, which was played against the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals. He also visited the Bills' locker room and wished luck to his teammates. Hamlin was present during the game cheering for his team from the sidelines.

The Bills ended their season after they lost the Divisional round against the Bengals 10-27.

On January 28th, for the first time since his on-field collapse, he posted a video on his social media and thanked the medical staff who were by his side during the recovery.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Damar Hamlin as the 212th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft. He has played two seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.

In his rookie season in 2021, he played as a defensive back for the Bills and played in 14 games. He did not start in any games and ended the season with two tackles and two passes defended.

He played as a safety for the Bills this season and started 13 out of 15 games before being ruled out of the season after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field in Week 17. He recorded, 91 tackles, three quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two passes defended.
