Aaron Rodgers is expected to be a member of the New York Jets this off-season, the only question is when.
Rodgers made the announcement a few weeks ago on the Pat McAfee Show. So what's the hold up? According to Rodgers, the Packers are looking for the right compensation in return for him.
Via the New York Post, Jets' owner Woody Johnson spoke at the annual league meeting on Tuesday in Phoenix and briefly talked about Aaron Rodgers and an updated trade. He said that the team is anxious but they are going to stick to their plan of acquiring Rodgers.
Johnson said:
"I think we're anxious. We're anxious, I guess. We look forward. We're optimistic. We have a plan. We're willing to stick with our plan. I don't think anybody is hyperventilating."
Johnson added that he's not the patient type and that they have to win now. He added:
"I'm not the patient sort, really. We've got to win. We're in the win business, so we have to win now. That's the same thing I said 23 years ago."
So what exactly are the Packers looking for in return for Rodgers? General Manager Brian Gutekunst was asked what he's looking for in return for Rodgers. He said that he isn't necessarily looking for the Jets' first-round pick, but wants a premiere package for a premiere package player like Rodgers.
Gutekunst said:
"I want all the picks. I think that’s not a necessity, but at the same time, the value of the player – he’s a premier player, so getting premier picks back for (premier) players is important."
The New York Jets can become an AFC powerhouse with Aaron Rodgers
Once the New York Jets acquire Aaron Rodgers, they will become one of the scariest teams in the AFC.
They finished last season 7-10 but dropped their last six games as they hit an end-of-season slump.
In the off-season, they've added wide receivers Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman.
Their team features players such as running backs Michael Carter and Breece Hall, Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner, and defensive lineman Quinnen Williams.
