The 2023 NFL Combine at the Lucas Oil Stadium has brought CJ Stroud to the attention of many NFL enthusiasts. The draft prospect has consistently showcased dazzling performances for the Ohio State Buckeyes over the last few years.

Born Coleridge Bernard Stroud IV, the quarterback currently holds many Ohio State football program records. He has the most passing yards in a single game for the Buckeyes and was also the team's first player to throw six touchdowns on three different occasions.

Stroud declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on January 16, foregoing his remaining two years of college eligibility to get the chance to become a professional in the NFL. Despite his college football achievements, CJ Stroud wasn't able to win the highly coveted Heisman Trophy.

CJ Stroud's attempt at the Heisman Trophy

Awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football, the Heisman Trophy epitomizes excellence in the NCAA football world. The trophy has been awarded 86 times to 85 different winners, with the first dating back to 1935.

However, CJ Stroud wasn't lucky enough to clinch the coveted award despite coming close twice. The 21-year-old was a finalist for the award in both the 2021 and 2022 editions, but he wasn't voted as the winner in any of those.

Stroud was voted in fourth position in 2021 with 399 total votes. He ended up behind the winner, Bryce Young, who is also participating at the 2023 NFL Combine, as well as Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions and Kenny Pickett of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was also named in the third position when the 2022 edition was announced in December. He ended up behind USC Trojans' Caleb Williams, who isn't eligible for the 2023 NFL draft, and TCU Horned Frogs’ Max Duggan, a participant in the 2023 NFL Combine.


What Awards did Stroud Win in his College Career?

CJ Stroud was too impressive during his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes to leave college football empty-handed. The California-born quarterback has a number of plaques in the bag for his stride in NCAA football.

He was named the Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year on two occasions. Stroud claimed the Big Ten Conference award in 2021 and 2022. He was at the same time named the Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year, another Big Ten Conference honor.

However, his first Big Ten Conference award was the Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year award, which he won in 2021. CJ Stroud also had the honor of being named to the All-Big Ten first team in 2021 and 2022.
