The New York Giants benched quarterback Daniel Jones in the fourth quarter of their 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. Late in that game, coach Brian Daboll brought on backup Drew Lock to replace Jones in an attempt to find a "spark." However, Lock only completed three of his eight passes for six yards after coming on, so that spark never materialized.

Given his lackluster play this season, many have questioned whether Daboll's choice to bench Jones last week means the quarterback won't start on Monday night when the Giants face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jones told reporters that he would start against Pittsburgh, but he did not specify if he had received any promises beyond this week.

"I'm just going to focus on playing well,” Jones said. “I think playing well, winning the game, that puts us all in the best position. Daboll can make his decision. He's the head coach, so my job is to play and play well, and that's what I'm focused on."

Jones, who was drafted sixth overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft by the New York Giants, has been the team's starter since the start of his rookie season. However, questions have been raised in recent weeks about his ability to remain in that post.

The Giants offered Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million contract following a successful 2022 season, but the team has struggled ever since. As the starting quarterback, he has led New York to a 2-5 record this season, completing just over 60 percent of his passes for 1,442 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions.

Even though the 27-year-old will still start on Monday, it appears that if his performances don't improve, he may not be able to hold the position going forward.
