Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford has been in the spotlight as the Los Angeles Rams begin their 2024 NFL preseason. In their preseason opener, the Rams will host the Dallas Cowboys at the SoFi Stadium, with kick-off at 4:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday.
Matthew Stafford won't play in the LA Rams' preseason opener against the Cowboys on Sunday.
Rams coach Sean McVay mentioned that most starters won't play against Dallas. Since Stafford is LA's QB1 heading into the 2024 season, the team is taking a precautionary measure not to risk the player in the preseason.

Stafford has missed several games due to injuries since joining the NFL in 2009. In 2023, he started 15 games for the Rams but was dealing with hand and hip injuries that kept bothering him throughout the season.
There are also rumors that Stafford's backup, Jimmy Garoppolo, won't feature in the preseason game against the Cowboys. Hence, Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn are expected to share the reps against Dallas on Sunday.
