Is Saquon Barkley playing tonight against the Eagles? Update on the Giants RB ahead of huge Divisional round matchup

NFC Wild Card Playoffs - New York Giants v Minnesota Vikings
Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants warms up prior to the NFC Wild Card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings

The New York Giants' first postseason victory since Super Bowl XLVI (2012) was made possible by Saquon Barkley. The running back delivered a clutch performance when the franchise needed him most.

Barkley is fit and set to play a huge role in tonight's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, just as he did last week.

In the Wild Card round of the postseason, the Giants overcame the Minnesota Vikings 31-24. The offense was led by Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, who each scored two touchdowns.

Barkley's first touchdown score featured some of his signature acceleration. With 109 yards from scrimmage, Barkley played a significant part in the victory and is integral to New York's hopes against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles, whose defense limited Barkley to just 48 scrimmage yards in their lone regular-season encounter (Barkley sat out the Week 18 matchup), will be very tough opposition for New York.

Tonight's meeting between the Giants and Philadelphia Eagles will be their third encounter of the campaign. Thus far, the Giants have suffered defeats in both matches.

Saquon Barkley will be important for the Giants against the Eagles

Saquon Barkley, who has historically underperformed against the Eagles, must carry the ball efficiently for the New York Giants to have any chance of winning.

Barkley gained 28 yards on nine rushes in the lone game he faced the Eagles this season. Barkley hasn't run for more than 100 yards against Philadelphia since his debut season in 2018.

Due to his versatility, Barkley could be the deciding factor in the contest. Barkley finished fourth in the league with a career-high 1,312 yards while leading the NFC in rushing during the regular season.

If the Giants can run the ball effectively, they could pull off a huge upset in Philadelphia. Against such a rival, there's nothing New York would enjoy more. This NFC Divisional round matchup will certainly be a tremendous spectacle for the neutral.
