Jared Goff - Detroit Lions v Green Bay Packers

Jared Goff is the starting quarterback for the Detroit Lions and has seen his stock rise this season. Since being selected first-overall in the 2016 draft, it hasn't exactly gone Goff's way and he has been widely criticized for most of his career. That ended during the 2022 season as he impressed fans and critics alike with his demeanor, stats and drive.

Goff has just finished playing his seventh season in the NFL, with Detroit not making the playoffs. This was his second campaign with the Lions.

The Los Angeles Rams drafted Jared Goff and signed him to a four-year, $27.9 million contract. In 2019, Goff signed a four-year contract extension worth $134 million. In 2020, he converted $9M of his salary into bonus, clearing $7.2M of the cap with Los Angeles.

Goff was traded to Detroit from Los Angeles for Matthew Stafford and a bevy of picks. On March 2021, Goff converted $20M of 2021 salary into bonus, clearing $15M of cap space with Detroit. He played his second season with the Lions and has two more left according to his contract. Thus far, he has earned (according to Spotrac) $108,863,078.

In the 2023 season, he will earn a base salary of $20,650,000 and a roster bonus of $5,000,000. He will carry a cap hit of $30,650,000 and a dead cap value of $10,000,000.

Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions look destined to challenge for the NFC North next season

The Lions finished the season with a winning record of 9-8 and were placed second in the NFC North. Though they couldn't make it to the playoffs, they had a far better season than in recent ones where they ended up with a losing record.

In Week 18, the Lions defeated and crushed the playoff hopes of the Green Bay Packers. Detroit beat Green Bay 20-16, and the Packers were left dissatisfied with third place in their division.

Lions QB Jared Goff ended the season with 4,438 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a pass completion percentage of 65.1. In the last game against the Packers, he threw for 224 yards and completed 23 out of 34 passes.

After being considered by many a draft bust, Jared Goff and the Lions have both seen public opinion shift. They are now seen to be on the right path and the future looks bright in Detroit. They are widely expected to challenge for the NFC North in the 2023 season, but that is many months away.
