Leonard Fournette landing spots: 3 most likely destinations for former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back

Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend Leonard Fournette has left the team, with the Bucs releasing him at the beginning of the 2023 NFL off-season.

The LSU alum earned icon status with the Bucs thanks to his performances leading up to their 2020 Super Bowl win. However, with the retirement of Tom Brady, it was crystal clear that the Bucs were entering the postseason of the rebuild.

So now that Playoff Lenny's time with the Bucs is up, where is the former Jacksonville Jaguars draft pick's next destination? Well, we have three choices of destinations for the former lottery pick.

Three landing spots for Leonard Fournette

Here are three franchises that could open their arms for the borderline Pro Bowler now that he's off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster.

#1 Los Angeles Chargers

The difference that a week can make in the NFL off-season. If we had made this list a week ago, there would be no chance that the Los Angeles Chargers would be here. But a lot has changed over the past seven postseason days.

Los Angeles Chargers star running back Austin Ekeler has demanded a trade out of LA. The reason is that the Pro Bowler feels thoroughly undervalued by the Chargers and desires a new contract. Unfortunately, the Chargers are reluctant to offer Ekeler a new deal, so he's officially on the trading block.

Leonard Fournette could be a solid replacement for Ekeler, as he's an above-average catcher and a motivated rusher. The best part about this fit is that Fournette would be joining a contender in the Chargers, giving him yet another chance to lift the Lombardi Trophy. Going from Tom Brady to Justin Herbert is a good move, if you ask us.

#2 Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins had a revolving door of running backs in 2022, and that possibly stifled the team's productivity.

Yes, the likes of Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, and Jeff Wilson Jr. are alright on paper, but truth be told, they aren't the backfield cast that can lead you to a Super Bowl game. None of the above players are under contract before the 2023 NFL season, so there's ample space to add a certain Super Bowl champ.

Leonard Fournette could thrive with an offensive-minded head coach, Mike McDaniel, who is always ready to put his arm around the shoulders of his stars. Fournette is a decent pass catcher, and he still has a lot to offer on the ground. Adding him to the Dolphins' locker room might be a masterstroke.

#3 Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are regular postseason contenders, thanks to Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. However, the team has not struck gold in the running back department over the past few seasons.

That's why Josh Allen is regularly at the top of the pass rush column, and a large reason why the Bengals and Chiefs regularly thump them in the playoffs. So why not add a running back with a reputation for being an absolute unit during the playoffs?

Playoff Lenny is available in free agency, and he could bring something different to the Bills' running back room. Leonard Fournette will join the likes of James Cook and Nyheim Hines on Buffalo's RB depth chart to bring the Super Bowl experience.

Remember that a fully fit Leonard Fournette is a terror to NFL defenses. The Bills can't do worse than sign the former Buc to a prove-it deal just to test the waters.
