The New York Jets have a rich history of talented players, but when it comes to selecting the greatest, one name rises above the rest.

Joe Namath, also known as "Broadway Joe," made a lasting impact both on and off the field with the team from 1965 to 1976. His charismatic personality and fearless play helped establish the Jets and cemented his place in football lore as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

New York Jets' best ever: Joe Namath

Joe Namath is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history and one of the most iconic players in the New York Jets' history.

Namath was selected by the Jets as the first pick in the 1965 AFL draft after a successful college career at the University of Alabama. He quickly established himself as a star in the league, setting numerous records and leading the Jets to their first Super Bowl victory in 1968.

This victory, which came against the heavily-favored Baltimore Colts, remains one of the biggest upsets in the history of professional sports. Namath's bold guarantee of a victory before the game, combined with his brilliant performance, solidified his place as one of the most charismatic and confident players in NFL history.

Namath's impact cannot be overstated. He helped establish the Jets as one of the top teams in the league, and his brash personality and stylish image helped to popularize professional football in the New York area and beyond.

Despite numerous injuries and declining performances later in his career, Namath's legacy as a Jets legend remains unchallenged. In 1985, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and his No. 12 jersey was retired by the team in 2003.
