New York Jets QB Chris Streveler's contract: How much does backup QB earn in 2022?

Arizona Cardinals v Seattle Seahawks
Chris Streveler replaced Zach Wilson in Week 16

Chris Streveler entered the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets game following yet another sketchy performance from Zach Wilson. Their mood changed as soon as the Jets' fans saw the former CFL Quarterback in action. The Jets suddenly developed hope, and even though they lost, the stadium had a feel-good vibe.

Chris Streveler is always lighting up stadiums anytime he takes to the Gridiron. It is a shame that this hasn't been the case in the NFL, but at least he's competing with the big boys.

Streveler is currently in his third season as an NFL quarterback, and the Jets are his second team in the league. His first stint was with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 and 2021 before he signed a deal with the Cards.

The player signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets that pays him an average of $207,000 annually. His contract does not include a signing bonus, so $207,000 will be spread for the season.

Chris Streveler's Career Timeline

Chris Streveler had his first experience playing organized amateur football as a member of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He played in Minnesota for two seasons, but he never got the coach's trust to lead the team from QB on a first-team basis.

As a result, he entered the transfer portal following his second full season with the Golden Gophers. He thus transferred to the South Dakota Coyotes, a University where he quickly became their starting quarterback.

Streveler had a decently productive time at South Dakota and finished his college career there with a record of 12–11 as a Coyote. He put up a stat line of 6,081 passing yards, 54 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions in 23 games.

After college, he declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, where he went undrafted and quickly joined the Canadian Football League side, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where he would serve as a backup for Matt Nichols. Streveler put up a stat line of 2,698 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions in 35 games.

Following the 2019 CFL season, he signed a deal with the Arizona Cardinals, which fulfilled his childhood dream of making an NFL roster. He spent two seasons with the Cardinals, putting up a stat line of 231 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception in eight games played as a backup.

At the end of the 2021 NFL season, he joined the New York Jets as a practice squad member.

How is Chris Streveler performing this season?

Chris Streveler was thrown into the deep end in the Jets' matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thankfully, he gave a good account of himself and might have upgraded his profile around the league.

He has played in one game so far in the 2022 NFL season and put up a stat line of 10-of-15 passes for 90 yards and 9 rushes for 54 yards.
