After a lengthy wait, Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. The news came just before the team's mandatory minicamp. Rodgers elected not to wait until training camp and will be with his new team for their minicamp.

With Rodgers set to suit up for a solid Steelers team in 2025, Pittsburgh has already started doing its homework on potential trade candidates to bolster its unit around the four-time MVP.

On Friday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Pittsburgh's front office contacted the Atlanta Falcons to inquire about the status of star tight end Kyle Pitts.

"Kyle Pitts, there was a phone call there," Rapoport said on Good Morning Football. "The Steelers are in the market, it seems, for at least one more playmaker."

Pitts could join a stout tight end group highlighted by Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington. Following news of Donald Parham's season-ending injury, the No. 4 overall pick in 2021 would give Pittsburgh three tight ends entering the 2025 season.

Pitts already has a rapport with Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who was Atlanta's head coach during Pitts' first two NFL seasons. Pitts is coming off a relatively underwhelming season, catching 47 passes for 602 yards and four touchdowns.

Aaron Rodgers makes headlines with Steelers signing

After months of conflicting reports and general confusion, Aaron Rodgers ended the speculation by signing for Pittsburgh. Rodgers, who is set to suit up in his 21st NFL season, reportedly signed a one-year deal with a base salary in the neighborhood of $10 million.

In an episode of "The Pat McAfee Show" in April, the 10-time Pro Bowler said he'd play for $10 million.

In 17 games last season, Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the New York Jets. Despite a 5-12 record, Rodgers apparently showed enough down the stretch to garner Pittsburgh's attention.
