The Philadelphia Eagles narrowly defeated the Cleveland Browns, a team that has struggled to find success in the National Football League this season. Hosting the Browns on Sunday evening, the Eagles escaped with a 20-16 victory, relying heavily on their defense and standout performances from their skilled players on offense.
The win improved the Eagles' record to 3-2 but not everyone was convinced of the team's credentials. Some fans at the Lincoln Financial Field voiced their frustration, calling for coach Nick Sirianni's job.
In a moment of heightened emotion, Sirianni confronted the audience and engaged in a shouting match with the fans. Sirianni's outburst went viral on social media and during ESPN's "Get Up" segment, two-time New York Jets Super Bowl champion Damien Woody had some strong words for the Eagles coach.
“This dude is a clown. Seriously," Woody said. "You’re gonna seriously talk trash to the fans? Your own fans! Listen, people come out here and pay big money to watch you put a product out on the field. When you don’t perform well they have every right to boo you."
Woody then accused Sirianni of using his kids to soften any questions the reporters might have over how the Eagles didn't manage to get things right on offense.
"This dude is a straight clown. I don’t have any respect for what this man is doing," Woody added.
Where the Philadelphia Eagles stand heading into Week 7
There have been shades of the 2023 slide this year and the Eagles haven't looked like the most settled team in 2024.
The Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers was a slender one but they immediately dropped the next game against the Atlanta Falcons. A loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't help either.
The Eagles are 3-2 entering Week 7 but the defense still remains a concern. They went up against one of the worst offenses in the league this year and managed to keep Deshaun Watson in check despite a second-half resurgence but the Eagles will face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8, the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10 and the Washington Commanders in 11.
Vic Fangio might have to shore things up going against those offenses if Philadelphia is to have a respectable shot of easing into the playoffs.
