QB Aaron Rodgers on his future with the Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers finished his 18th season in the NFL almost two weeks early, losing to the Detroit Lions in Week 18 at Lambeau Field. Rumors began to speculate on his future with the Green Bay Packers when he left the field with longtime teammate, wide receiver Randall Cobb.

The four-time league MVP made his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and shared his thoughts on his future with the Packers.

Rodgers said:

“I just need some time right now. I’m either all-in or all-out.”

The Packers star addressed his meetings with the team's front office, specifically with general manager Brian Gutekunst.

He said he still felt he could play another season but hinted it might not be with the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers said:

“Do I still think I can play? Of course. Can I play at a high level? Yeah. The highest. I think I can win MVP again, in the right situation. Is that Green Bay or is that somewhere else? I'm not sure, but I don’t think you should shut down any opportunity.”

For the Super Bowl-winning quarterback, this season was one of the statistically worst seasons of his career. He threw for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. It was the first time since the 2017 season that he had under 4,000 yards and the sixth time with under 30 touchdowns. His 12 interceptions were the most since the 2010 season, his third as the Packers' full-time starter.

There are several factors to consider regarding whether the 10-time Pro Bowler will return for his 19th season. The future Hall of Famer essentially has three options this offseason.

What options are available to Aaron Rodgers for next season?

Aaron Rodgers agreed to a three-year, $150.8 million contract extension with the Green Bay Packers last March. However, the quarterback has three options on the table for next season.

First, he could hang up his cleats without owing any money to the Packers. Yet, he'd leave $58.3 million in salary for next season.

Next, the quarterback could try to work on a trade to a new franchise if the latter wants to take on the $58.3 million salary. The Packers could decide to pay some of the money to make a trade happen.

Lastly, he could return next season as the franchise quarterback in hopes of getting another Lombardi Trophy.

It could be interesting to see how the Aaron Rodgers saga plays out this off-season.
