Drew Lock made a huge play to start the New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys duel. The second game of the 2024 edition of the NFL's Thanksgiving Day started with both teams putting numbers on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
Cooper Rush tried to score a touchdown in the game's first drive, but the Cowboys settled for a field goal instead to open the scoreboard. On the other end, the Giants found the endzone with a one-yard touchdown from Tyrone Tracy Jr. That said, before the short run, Lock put on a show to try to lead his team to the promised land.
At 3:28 in the first quarter, Lock scrambled up for a 30-yard rushing touchdown. The play was reversed and Lock was awarded 28 yards, putting the Giants on the verge of scoring, which they did.
Even though the original play was reversed, fans were impressed by Drew Lock and some pumped up that run on X (formerly Twitter). Some said he was already better than Daniel Jones, who was cut by the Giants ahead of Week 12.
"He already better than Daniel Jones 😭," one fan said.
"Daniel jones could never," another fan said.
"They really started Daniel Jones over him. 😭," another fan wrote.
Others joked about Lock entering the MVP conversation if he kept playing at this high level or would ruin the Giants' plans to tank.
"Bench him immediately this tank can’t end! 😂," one fan said.
Why is Drew Lock playing over Tommy DeVito?
Besides struggling against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Tommy DeVito has been dealing with a forearm injury. He wasn't able to recover in time for Thursday's game, opening the door for Drew Lock to start. DeVito was named New York's emergency quarterback for this matchup.
Before the season started, Lock was expected to be in the mix for the starting role, but after Brian Daboll named Daniel Jones the starter, not much was said about the former Broncos and Seahawks quarterback. This could be a solid opportunity for Lock to win the job and try to lead the Giants to a decent end of the season.
However, as some fans noted, playing well and taking wins would hurt the Giants' chances to get a high draft pick and probably land their franchise quarterback.
