Baker Mayfield signing with Rams garners mixed response from NFL fans

If you are looking for a left-field move, Baker Mayfield's signing with the Los Angeles Rams takes the cake. Fresh off again being cut from an NFL roster, this time by the Carolina Panthers, the Rams and Sean McVay have taken their chances and signed the former number one overall pick.

After an up-and-down NFL career, it was thought that Mayfield's cutting by the Panthers signaled the end of his playing days. But the Rams clearly have other ideas.

With Matthew Stafford gone for the season, a chance has opened up for Mayfield to revive his NFL career which is on life support. However, not many fans are on board with the signing. One fan thinks the Rams signed him to block the San Francisco 49ers from getting to Mayfield.

"Did it to block the 49ers. They’re not even in playoff contention."

Another fan wasn't impressed with the quarterback's signing and wants him to quit the NFL and start an acting career.

"Happy he'll be closer to Hollywood! Baker needs to quit QB and start his acting career."

Many other NFL fans were quick to jump on the news and give their thoughts on Baker Mayfield's latest career move.

As you can see, the move has drawn mixed reactions from the NFL public. It does seem like an odd move, but McVay and the Rams could use the remaining games to see if Baker Mayfield could potentially be a backup next season. But even that sounds odd as well.

That is what McVay and the Rams coaching staff are thinking. But looking at the season, it looks like a lost cause for a playoff push. The Rams have lost their last six games and sit rock bottom in the NFC West with a 3-9 record.

With the San Francisco 49ers (8-4) and the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) ahead of them, there is little to no chance of making a late playoff push. This is what makes the Baker Mayfield move look odd.

With Stafford out for the year and rumors swirling around that he could even retire, did the Rams get the former number-one pick to evaluate him for a starting role next season?

It does seem farfetched, but this is the NFL, and if there is one coach who can turn around Mayfield's career, it's McVay.
