Veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks' injury news is anything but good for his team. The Dallas Cowboys are set to face the Pittsburgh Steelers after going back to winning ways against the New York Giants in Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season, but Cooks won't be available for Sunday night's game.
Mike McCarthy and fantasy managers will have to rely on different players, as Cooks won't be available in Week 5. The Cowboys will try to extend their good momentum and worsen the Steelers' after they succumbed to the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday.
Brandin Cooks injury update
ESPN's Todd Archer reported on Wednesday that Brandin Cooks developed an infection in his right knee after undergoing a procedure in New York following his team's 20-15 win over the Giants.
"The Cowboys will be without WR Brandin Cooks for at least this week vs. Pittsburgh and potentially longer after an infection developed in his right knee following a procedure he had after remaining in NY following the win against the Giants, according to multiple sources."
Cooks, a 10-year veteran, joined the Cowboys last year, becoming a solid WR2 option for McCarthy's team. He got one reception for 16 yards against the Giants. He has caught nine passes for 91 yards and one touchdown this season.
With Cooks out of action for this week, the Cowboys could use Jalen Tolbert or KaVontae Turpin as WR2 this season. They have more options in the receiving room in Jalen Brooks and Ryan Flournoy.
Could Cowboys target Davante Adams amid Brandin Cooks issues?
Now that Brandin Cooks is out of action for this week, the possibility of the Cowboys going for a trade to land Davante Adams could become bigger. However, Mike McCarthy downplayed a potential reunion with his former Green Bay Packers player, saying he feels good about the team's WR room.
“Player acquisition is something that always goes on. And I’ve never gotten in the habit of talking about players on other teams because I don’t know if anything good that comes out of that.
“Personally, I have tremendous love and respect for Davante. I got a chance to see him up there in Vegas (for the Cowboys vs. Raiders preseason game). Don’t really know exactly what’s going on there. But we do feel very confident with our receiver room.”
The Cowboys haven't had the best start to the 2024 season and Cooks' absence could be painful against a strong defense like the Steelers.
