It looks like Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will have to wait for his playoff debut. The third-year quarterback was ruled out early Wednesday morning for Sunday's Wild Card matchup versus the Buffalo Bills.

During the Dolphins' Christmas Day loss to the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa suffered a hit after throwing the football and experienced concussion-like symptoms the very next day after entering protocols.

Head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the game. He was ruled out for the Dolphins' Week 17 game versus the New England Patriots. The injury wouldn't get much better, as McDaniel ruled Tagovailoa out for the Dolphins' season finale versus the New York Jets.

Tagovailoa finished the season throwing for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, going 8–5 in 13 games started, while leading the league in passer rating (105.5) and average for yards per attempt.

The Miami Dolphins are set to start Skylar Thompson in wake of an injured Tua Tagovailoa

While Tagovailoa is ruled out of Sunday's contest against the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins will be turning to rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson.

The team announced that Thompson will start again this week for their playoff game. This will be his third career start.

On October 15, 2022, Thompson started for the Dolphins as both Tua and Teddy Bridgewater suffered concussions. He struggled in his first start, completing 7-of-13 passes for 89 yards before experiencing a thumb injury.

Thompson would make his second career start during the Dolphins' season finale versus the New york Jets. He completed 20 passes on 31 attempts for 152 yards in a lackluster 11-6 victory over the Jets that snuck the Dolphins into the playoffs.

Thompson will face a hungry Buffalo Bills team. He will need to play lights out if they want to have a chance at competing with the second-seeded Bills.
