Chicago Bears NFL Mock Draft 2023: Who will Bears select in 2023 draft?

The Chicago Bears ended the 2022 NFL season with the worst record in the league.

As such, they earned the first overall pick in the 2023 National Football League draft. Of course, the first overall pick of the draft is a big deal in the NFL, as the franchise that has it has the chance to select a generational prospect.

Typically, teams use this pick to select a franchise-altering QB, but there lies the problem. The Chicago Bears already have their young franchise QB in Justin Fields. Hence, the Bears were expected to trade down in the draft to stockpile some picks and useful role players.

A few days ago, the Bears did just that: they traded away the first overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers for D.J. Moore and a boatload of draft picks. So now, instead of picking first, the Bears will pick ninth, and they will have some extra picks this year and the next.

Chicago Bears Mock Draft for 2023 NFL Draft

Here are the players the Chicago Bears will most likely select from the first to the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft. These picks will address the Bears' multiple needs across the gridiron.

Round 1, Pick 9 (from Panthers): OT Paris Johnson, Ohio State

With the ninth pick of the draft, the Bears select a much-needed elite offensive tackle to protect Justin Fields from career-altering hits.

Paris Johnson is a very athletic offensive lineman with the size and footwork to anchor an NFL offensive line at left tackle. At a sturdy 6' 6" and 310 pounds, Johnson is awesome on edge in pass protection and can sustain blocks in the run game. He should come into the starting lineup from the first week and add value to the side's offense.

Round 2, Pick 53 (from Ravens): LB Trenton Simpson, Clemson

Another position where the Chicago Bears need elite young talent is at linebacker, and who better to select than Trenton Simpson, a stud from Clemson University?

Simpson is the perfect linebacker for the Bears' 4-3 defense. He has the athleticism to take on snaps at man coverage against the pass, and the speed to take receivers deep and is physical against the run.

Selecting Simpson will be a masterstroke for the Bears, as they will get a potential Pro Bowler on a discount for the next five seasons.

Round 2, Pick 61 (from Panthers): DT Keeanu Benton, Wisconsin

Staying in the second round, the Bears could make do with a defensive tackle to improve their below-average defense.

While most of the best players at the position should already be off the board, Keeanu Benton should be available for the taking. Benton was a revelation at the Senior Bowl. He's a large bulky tackle at 6' 4" and 309 pounds and is a natural at stopping the run as a pass rusher.

His frame is perfect for his position, and he will strike fear into the hearts of Bears' opposing QBs for years to come.

Round 3, Pick 64: OL Steve Avila, TCU

Steve is elite in zone schemes at either guard or center. Against elite pass rushers, he can anchor and hold off NFL-caliber bull rushers. His versatility should come in handy for the Bears.

Round 4, Pick 103: WR Marvin Mims, Oklahoma

Time to get a weapon for Justin Fields. The Chicago Bears will do themselves a solid by drafting Oklahoma State University speedster Marvin Mims in the fourth round. The reason is that Mims is a fast receiver that will pressure defenses from the slot. He is the perfect modern receiver that creates separation and gains yards after the catch.

Round 4, Pick 133 (from Eagles): CB Riley Moss, Iowa

Riley Moss is a zone-scheme cornerback who can be a natural in Chicago's Cover 2 heavy defense.

The Iowa cornerback is a stellar ball hawk amassing 11 career interceptions in five years with the Hawkeyes. He could be an awesome ball hawk for the Bears in the next couple of seasons.

Round 5, Pick 136: S Brandon Joseph, Notre Dame

Brandon Joseph is a safety who can add a lot of impetus to a stale Chicago Bears' defense.

He's a ball-hawk with ten interceptions in his college career and thrives in a system that allows for roaming and covering the deep portions of the field. Talk about getting value late in the draft.

Round 5, Pick 150 (from Patriots): CB Jakorian Bennett, Maryland

Maryland University CB Jakorian Bennett is one of the most consistent cornerbacks in college football, with five interceptions and 24 pass breakups in his college career.

He showcased his speed with a 4.3 40-yard dash in the NFL Combine and can start immediately for the Chicago Bears.

Round 7, Pick 219: C Ricky Stromberg, Arkansas

Ricky Stromberg was made in a lab for a zone-run scheme. He has the needed athleticism to move laterally and get to the outside shoulder of a sturdy defensive lineman.

Stromberg has a sky-high football IQ and helped his college, Arkansas, set protections at the line of scrimmage. He's a project, but he could be an asset for the Chicago Bears for quite some time with the right coaching.

Round 7, Pick 259 (Compensatory): DL Kobie Turner, Wake Forest

With their compensatory pick, the Bears select Wake Forest Defensive Linesmen Kobie Turner as their last pick of the 2023 NFL draft.

Turner is a run-stopping defender who was walked on at the University of Richmond and became an All-American before transferring to Wake Forest, where he will look to make a splash in Chicago.
