The Chicago Bears managed to extend their losing streak to six games, while the Detroit Lions are on a stunning 10-game winning streak after Thursday's close match where the Lions narrowly beat the Bears 23-20. However, there was some questionable officiating late in the contest which fans picked up on.
Similar to how the Kansas City Chiefs get slammed by NFL fans for allegedly being helped by the referees, this time the Lions were the subject of their outraged. Fans felt that several hits against the Bears were pardoned while seemingly legal hits on the Lions was penalized.
In the viral video, Jahmyr Gibbs could be clearly seen stiff arming a Bears defender while he brought him down and another defender jumped in to help him. However, the refs did not think the hit was clean and slapped a pentalty on Bears.
One fan alleged the Lions are like the Chiefs of the NFC because of the help they receive from the referees.
"Lions kinda look the the chiefs of the NFC rn"
Another fan lamented the referees were always helping the Lions.
"Terrible lions always gettin help"
Some fans chimed in with their reactions at how the refs seemed to be lenieint with the Lions while being tough on the Bears.
"Lions are who nfl fans think the chiefs are in terms of ref favorage," one fan said.
"Refs always hate the Bears for some reason," another fan complained.
"No shock here. Refs are garbage as always" one fan slammed the NFL's officiating.
"REFS need replay assist because they have been AWFUL. Fire them and add a rer in the booth" another fan remarked.
Brutal hit on Caleb Williams seemingly ignored by the refs
During the game, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was taken down by the Lions defender Jack Campbell. In the video, Campbell could be seen tackling the quarterback and Williams' body awkwardly twisting and falling on the ground. Campbell's hit wasn't late but it was a lower-body shot on a quarterback, something the NFL has tried to eliminate from the game.
However, the refs did not throw any flag and play continued as usual.
Awful officiating or not, the Bears have lost their sixth game in a row. Williams, who was touted as the team's savior and could turn around their fortunes is struggling to find his foothold. A bad offensive line continues to plague the team, and head coach Matt Eberflus might not last much longer if his clock management and defensive production doesn't improve.
