Commanders sale news roundup: What we know about Dan Snyder’s intent so far

Washington Redskins v Miami Dolphins
Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder has apparently not made a full commitment to what his intentions are when it comes to the sale of his team.

Dan Snyder is selling the Washington Commanders, isn't he? That is apparently the question at this point in time. Just a few months ago, Snyder and his wife, Tanya, hired Bank of America Securities to handle future transactions with the organization.

According to a source who spoke with Front Office Sports, Snyder is interested in selling at least a majority of the Commanders organization. This would then make him a minority owner. The source said that potential bidders have been told that is where Snyder currently stands.

“They know he’s selling at least a majority stake in the team.”

Snyder currently owns almost all of the Washington Commanders franchise. For a new owner to have a controlling interest, they would need to purchase at least 50% of the team. Which is likely to be the case considering he doesn't want to sell his entire stake.

The Snyders have not commented on the potential sale since they hired Bank of America to handle the potential transactions. And, it appears that the remaining NFL owners have quieted their motion to remove Snyder as the owner of the team because of the potential sale in the works. This leaves this entire situation extremely fluid heading into the offseason.

Who's in the frame to buy the Washington Commanders?

As Bank of America Securities continues to handle the potential sale of the Washington Commanders, fans are anxious to find out who the six bidders for the team are. The first round of bidding ended just last month with the highest bid said to be around $6 billion, according to Front Office Sports.

While it is unknown who placed those bids, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who is said to be extremely interested in purchasing the team, has not placed a bid. Bezos has shown a lot of interest in purchasing an NFL franchise, especially the Commanders. It was even rumored at one point that he may team up with Jay-Z and Matthew McConaughey as a potential ownership group.

However, Dan Snyder has told those close to him that he would not sell the team to Jeff Bezos. The reason for that? Bezos owns the Washington Post, a media outlet that has been critical of the Commanders' handling of their toxic workplace culture as well as other allegations against the team. Whether or not that was the actual reason that Bezos held back the bid is unclear at this time.

Other potential bidders for the team include HB Sports Entertainment co-founders David Blitzer and Josh Harris, who are also the owners of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL's New Jersey Devils. José Feliciano and Behdad Eghbali, with Clearlake Capital, who showed interest in purchasing a stake in the team in 2020, are said to be interested in purchasing the team yet again.
