The Dallas Cowboys' dwindling season hit a double whammy last Sunday as they lost 27-21 to the Atlanta Falcons, and quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a hamstring injury that was set to sideline him for multiple weeks. The team hoped he wouldn't miss too many games and would return for the final few weeks of the campaign.
However, on Friday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Prescott was set to go under the knife to fix his partially torn hamstring, effectively ending his season.
Cowboys fans on social media were understandably distraught about the update and voiced their frustration.
"Season of HELL for Cowboys fans omg," a fan said.
Some fans suggested that the team should give up on the season and tank to get high picks in each round of the 2025 NFL draft and potentially replace Prescott.
"Cowboys just gotta tank and try to get one of the top QBs and figure it out," @kampagnepapi said.
"Cowboys need to tank and draft a QB, Dak is gonna be washed when he gets back," @Zazamyodor opined.
"The Cowboys need to tank hard. Finishing even 9-8 is not going to do them any good; they are not winning a playoff game and they will need to reload in the off-season," @misanthrope1967 suggested.
Dak Prescott replacement: Who will play in Week 10 vs. Eagles?
While taking a quarterback with a high draft pick next year is a scenario that the Cowboys will ponder after the season ends, in the short term, they need a replacement for Dak Prescott.
While they could beef up their quarterback room with a veteran free agent, Cooper Rush will likely be the starter for the rest of the season. He played most of the fourth quarter in their loss to the Falcons last week. He completed 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown.
Rush is in his seventh season with the Cowboys had started six games for the franchise, winning five. As long as he remains healthy, he'll get his longest run as the team's starting quarterback.
