Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, which forced him to leave the game. After the game, Prescott told reporters he felt "fine," but it was later determined that the injury was more serious than initially thought.

Early this week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the team would very likely place Prescott on injured reserve due to the injury. On Wednesday, more bad news came to light, as further tests showed that Prescott's suffered a partial avulsion of a right hamstring tendon. The team is trying to determine whether he will need surgery.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy spoke about the severity of Prescott's injury on Thursday and made it clear that Prescott is still trying to play through the injury, but the injury is serious.

McCarthy said:

"I know he wants to keep playing, but I think it's important to go through the process of gathering all of the information. It’s obviously a serious injury.”

Prescott has yet to be placed on injured reserve, as the Cowboys are weighing other options.

Former NFL wide receiver James Jones questioned Dak Prescott's toughness earlier this week when he found about Prescott injury.

Jones didn't think that Prescott was trying hard enough to play through this energy and questioned the severity of his injury. After learning that Prescott suffered a tear in the hamstring, Jones swallowed his words on this morning's segment on The Facility and apologized to Prescott.

Jones said today on The Facility:

"Now that I know the severity of the injury and it being off the bone, my bad, because I did jump the gun. I did not have the reports. I did not know the injury. I'm going off of my experience with the injury, my experience of how it happened, all that now I know the severity of injury. Mine wasn't off the bone, all right. Dak Prescott, you seen my tweet. My bad dog."

The Cowboys will start backup quarterback Cooper Rush against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Rush replaced Prescott during Sunday's loss to the Falcons.

Dallas is currently third in the NFC East with a 3-5 record. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Cowboys shut down Prescott for the remainder of the season, as a run to the postseason seems more and more unlikely.
