Jerry Jones, Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy have a massive elephant in the room as the 2024 season gets underway. The quarterback and head coach of the team have no assured future beyond this season, which has prompted a cacophony of questions.
Jones spoke about the situation on 105.3 The Fan this week, per Cowboys reporter Jon Machota.
"I will say this, I couldn't be more satisfied with either one of them, at all. So, that's not an issue," Jones said via Machota.

However, the comments insinuate that Jones is aware of an issue but didn't appear to clarify what it was.
Of course, fans and analysts have been quick to point out the team's lack of playoff success in the past 30 years. Those same detractors have also been quick to point out the Cowboys' lackluster offseason, in which they failed to sign a big name.
Dak Prescott gears up to play first game with no guarantees
Dak Prescott knows as much as anyone how dangerous it can be to play in the NFL, even in its current safety-first format. Prescott saw his season end in a flash in 2020 after suffering a season-ending injury, so he knows the risks. As a witness to that difficult season, Jones also knows the risks.
As such, both appear to be heading into the year with no guarantees after 2024. If Dak Prescott suffers a season-ending injury this week, that will be the last piece of data for Jones to analyze before he decides on Prescott's future once and for all.
With CeeDee Lamb's deal wrapped up, Prescott is the next domino for the team. Even if they intend to finalize a deal during the season, that tentative plan could blow up the second Prescott suffers an injury. Of course, there is also a strong likelihood that he will remain healthy this season.
However, the injury reaper can come for any player at any time. If it hits the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, it most likely will change the dynamics. As such, most will agree Prescott is taking a massive risk by setting foot on the field with no deal.
