The Dallas Cowboys remain the favorites to sign Odell Beckham Jr. at this late stage of the season. Owner Jerry Jones is as excited about that as anyone. The star wide receiver is expected to visit with the team today in hopes of lining up a contract.

According to reporter Jon Machota, Jones feels that the meeting will reveal whether or not the team will be able to land the prized free agent.

Regarding Beckham's visit, Jones said:

“He’s got a busy day. At the end of the day, we’ll have a good feel of where we’re going. … I could possibly do something uncomfortable with him.”

Given the debilitating injuries Beckham has sustained in the last few years, Jones probably doesn't want to spend a ton of money on what could very well be damaged goods. Odell Beckham Jr. will likely want more money than Jones might be willing to give.

However, there are advantages for both sides that don't involve getting their way exactly. Assuming the deal is a one-year contract (very likely given the injury history), then Beckham's price is only on the books for a single season and not even a full one at that.

For Beckham, a lower contract still means he's playing on one of the most iconic teams and could get a lot of endorsements. They're also legitimate Super Bowl contenders, which has to be on his mind.

When might Odell Beckham Jr. sign with the Cowboys or elsewhere?

Since there is a meeting today, there's a chance that Beckham signs with the Cowboys on the spot. If the meeting goes well and the two sides can agree, then there won't be much reason to wait.

However, if that's not the case, a deal is still coming sooner rather than later. Beckham will need time to get up to the Cowboys' or another team's speed, so signing sooner means he'll contribute sooner.

He'll have to ramp up physically and mentally with the playbook, so don't expect either party to waste too much time when it comes to putting pen to paper.
