Cowboys star Micah Parsons questions league over consistently favoring QBs for NFL MVP award

Micah Parsons isn't happy about the quarterback-centric nature of MVP award

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons has quickly become one of the best players in the NFL. He seems to be on his way to win the Defensive Player of the Year title in his second season.

Although he's having one of the best, if not the best, seasons of all defensive players in the league, Parsons knows he won't take home the prestigious MVP award.

The NFL tweeted a picture, asking fans for their pick for MVP this season. The tweet included an image of quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Josh Allen.

This prompted Parsons to quote the tweet and question why it's a quarterback-based award.

"Why this a Qb based award?"

The current favorite to win the award is Patrick Mahomes who has plus-odds to take the MVP trophy home, followed by the other three QBs listed above.

This season, Parsons has 10 sacks, 47 tackles, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two pass deflections, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in 10 games played.

As a rookie, he recorded 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, 84 tackles, and three pass-deflections, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The last non-QB to win MVP was Minnesota Viking's Adrian Peterson in 2012

Micah Parsons has a great point about the MVP award being basically a quarterback award.

The last non-quarterback to win the award was Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. He had one of the best seasons ever by a running back in 2012, recording 2,097 rushing yards on 363 carries and scoring 12 touchdowns.

The last time a defensive player won the league MVP award was in 1986 when the Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor took the title. Taylor became just the second defensive player ever in NFL history to win MVP after Vikings' Alan Page became the first in 1971.

The MVP award is basically a quarterback award and this year's winner will prove it once again.
