D.J. Moore contract: What are Chicago Bears signing up for with former Carolina Panthers WR?

Cleveland Browns v Carolina Panthers
DJ Moore of the Carolina Panthers

The Chicago Bears just swapped the first overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft for D.J. Moore and a bucketload of picks.

The Bears' front office did what many people expected, as they decided to improve their depth and keep faith in incumbent QB1 Justin Fields. They will absorb his contract from the Carolina Panthers by trading in D.J. Moore.

Moore is on a three-year, $61,884,000 contract, all of which the Chicago Bears have absorbed thanks to their trade. Moore will earn a guaranteed $19.965 million for the 2023 season. The wide receiver will get the chance to play with a versatile QB in Justin Fields, and he will play away from Carolina for the first time in his career. After the 2023 season, the Bears could cut Moore if they do not get their investment's worth.

However, if they don't, they could pay Moore $15.850 million for the 2024 season and $14.85 million for the next, the last of his current contract. At the end of his contract, Moore could earn $84.410 million in his playing career. A solid return for the 2018 first-round pick.

What are Chicago Bears signing up for by adding D.J. Moore?

With the signing of D.J. Moore, the Chicago Bears will be getting a solid receiving threat who could be a top-ten wide receiver in the NFL.

Throughout his five-year NFL career, Moore has eclipsed the 1,100-yard mark in three seasons, and he was the undisputed WR1 for the Panthers. Finally, Justin Fields will get a wide receiver to which he can sling the rock and be sure he will at least put up consistent numbers. No disrespect to Chase Claypool, but Moore is just a different beast on offense.

This move will likely make the Chicago Bears a more pass-heavy offense, as it would be ludicrous to have such options and choose to run the ball as much as they do. Adding Moore also means the Bears have lost the chance to draft a generational player with the first overall pick. They will hope to use the picks they got in return to stock up on their offensive line and defense.

How did D.J. Moore perform in 2023 NFL season?

D.J. Moore was typically solid in the 2022 NFL season, even though it was plain and obvious that he was exhausted with the Panthers' lack of an elite QB.

Moore put up a stat line of 63 receptions, 888 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns in 17 games. It's also worth noting that Moore has only missed two games in his career, giving him the deserved reputation of being an iron man at wide receiver.
