Dan Orlovsky sounds alarm for Cowboys' playoff chances after Jerry Jones' comment: "Without Ceedee Lamb there's no shot"

The Dallas Cowboys could be without one of their star players heading into the season as wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is currently holding out for a new contract. With the season less than a month away, it's alarming that no real progress has been made on contract negotiations.

On Thursday, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that the team isn't in any "urgency" to reach an extension with Lamb.

NFL analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky thinks the Cowboys are "fumbling" the situation and have a good chance of missing the playoffs if Lamb decides to hold out at the start of the season.

Orlovksy said via ESPN on NFL:

"This is like as fumbled the situation as the Cowboys have had, really years, probably going back to that initial contract with Dak. The Cowboys right now, in most of people's opinion, are a little bit of a fringe playoff team, just because they've lost some important pieces," Orlovksy said.

"Without CeeDee Lamb, there's no shot... CeeDee Lamb wants a new contract and it certainly doesn't feel like it right now, to Jerry's words, "no urgency." I think Emmett Smith held out for two games probably 15-20 years ago. If CeeDee holds out for two games when you're a fringe playoff team, that matters big time," Orlovksy said.

Orlovsky thinks Lamb could end up like Emmitt Smith, who during the '90s, held out of a few games for the Cowboys as he looked for a new contract.

To make the situation worse, Lamb laughed at Jones' comment via a repost on his X, formerly known as Twitter, account.

A lot of people aside from CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott think the way that the Dallas Cowboys are handling their contract situations is unaccepable.

Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith recently spoke about his displeasure of how Jerry Jones and the team are handling the star players and their contract situations.

Smith said via "Blogging the Boys":

“With CeeDee and the Dallas Cowboys today, let’s make this very clear. He is a very, very valuable asset to the Dallas Cowboys. He is a very, very valuable asset to Dak Prescott. Without him on the football field, they’re putting all of the pressure on Dak Prescott now. And that is unacceptable." Smith said.

Smith knows a thing or two about being in a tricky contract situation. He sat out of the first two games of the 1993 season, which resulted in the Cowboys going 0-2.

Prescott and Lamb are both playing on the final year of their current contracts and could look to sign elsewhere next off-season if they become free agents.
