Daniel Jones opens up on ACL injury status ahead of Giants training camp

Daniel Jones has not been seen on the field ever since he tore his ACL last season. But as the new one looms, he is confident in his chances of playing again.

The New York Giants quarterback recently addressed his situation during his youth football camp in Hoboken, New Jersey on Sunday, saying:

"Feel good, yeah, I’m ready to go. Ready to go in training camp. I’m looking forward to Wednesday.

He also shared optimism about the new makeup of the team:

"We got some new guys coming in and we’ll be a different team than last year, so it’s about finding out who the team is going to be and grow and build chemistry and be on the same page. I think there’s a lot of work to do, but I’m excited where we’re going."

Daniel Jones discusses recovery from ACL injury, 2024 expectations

One must be wondering how smoothly Daniel Jones' recovery went that he is confident in being back in practice and eventually back on the field.

Speaking to Giants Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms and son Matt on Simms Complete, he said he had "no real setbacks" during the "pretty smooth process":

“At this point. I’m doing pretty much everything — running, cutting, everything I need to do.”

With the four-year, $160-million extension that he signed in the 2023 offseason finally set to begin, there has been much talk of him being on the hot seat. However, despite Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito loom behind his shoulders, he is not letting that destract him from the goal - a return to the playoffs.

“I expect a lot of myself, I expect a lot of the team. And what’s going on outside that is not necessarily something that is going to drive me.”

At least one person is confident that Jones can regain his 2022 form: former tight end and teammate Darren Waller, who retired during this offseason. Speaking to SiriusXM NFL Radio, the one-time Pro Bowler said:

"I'm just excited for him to get another opportunity. I feel like he gets a bad rep... [I'm] hoping that they can get those things shored up and allow him to have an opportunity to show that he is a talented dude [and] to play the football that he was playing in 2022... I feel like that's definitely still in him."

The Giants' first preseason game is against the Detroit Lions on August 8.
