ESPN analyst claims to have found the new Aaron Rodgers – “If you put them side by side, they’re almost identical”

Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time in NFL history, and to be compared to him is a bold take.

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback and current ESPN analyst Aaron Murray made a strong statement by comparing North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye to Aaron Rodgers. He thinks that Maye uses his body and plays in a very similar manner to the four-time MVP winner.

"Drake Maye. He looks and moves and has very similar mechanics to Aaron Rodgers. Incredible base, he uses his lower body extremely well. Effortless throw with the football, when it comes to pure base quickness of feet, all of that, I mean if you put him side-by-side Aaron Rodgers right now, it is almost identical."

Murray added that if Maye continues the run of success he's had this season and beats Clemson, he would give him the Heisman award.

"The way he commands the pocket, the way he moves in and outside the pocket, he wants to get the accuracy in which he throws a football, he looks like a guy that is ready to be the number one quarterback in the NFL draft this next season. He's a lot of fun to watch. If they win and go out and beat Clemson, I would give him the Heisman if he does well the next three weeks."

While it is very early to make a comparison to Aaron Rodgers, Drake Maye has indeed played phenomenally during the 2022 college season.

Maye saw minimal action last season with the Tar Heels during his red-shirt campaign. He completed seven out of 10 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown.

Maye took over as the starter for North Carolina this season. Through 10 games, the red-shirt freshman has completed 70.1 percent of his passes for 3,412 yards and 34 touchdowns against three interceptions. He also has 584 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.

He's not eligible to declare for the 2023 NFL draft next season. As a result, he will likely be one of the top prospects for the 2024 draft if he declares.

The 2023 quarterback class has a lot of studs coming out, including Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Will Levis, and many others.

Maye will have to wait until 2024 to prove that he is worthy of the Rodgers comparison.
