The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the regular season 8-9 last year but made the playoffs, narrowly winning the NFC South.

They suffered a first-round exit in the playoffs, losing to the Dallas Cowboys.

NHL Insider JP Peterson joined Sportskeeda's podcast show, The Ballfather podcast, hosted by Reggie Roberts. The two discussed what went wrong with the Bucs last season.

Peterson kept it honest and said that there was no accountability last season and that head coach Todd Bowles did a bad job.

Peterson said:

“Todd Bowles did not coach well, last year, in my opinion. And I like Todd tremendously. I know him a little bit personally. But if you're being an objective observer right now, of him as a head coach, the reviews are not good."
“Last year was not good. There was a lack of accountability on this team that they were making, you know, as he said, they want to install mistakes in a playoff game leaving CeeDee Lamb wide-ass open in the hands of, you can't do that. And there was a there was a real lack of, even Brady felt that Todd Bowles would tighten up the ship.

He added that the team missed the prescence of Bruce Arians in the locker room.

Peterson said:

"That's kind of why he wanted Bowles to be the head coach, but that never really materialized. The lack of Bruce Arians, you know, that, for lack of a better term, that father figure, kicking them in the butt or whatever but there was there was a significant decrease in accountability."
"There were way too many mistakes being made. And it was tolerated. You know, like they say, in football, you're either coaching it or you're allowing it to happen. Either way, it's not good. It's not good. And it wasn't good last year. And his time management, his game management, C-minus, maybe a D at best."

Who will lead the Tampa Bay Bucs at quarterback in 2023?

Tom Brady announced his retirement on February 1, 2023. In a video posted on Twitter, the seven-time Super Bowl champion confirmed that he is retiring "for good" this time.

Backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert is an unrestricted free agent. The only quarterback the Bucs have on the active roster is third-year quarterback Kyle Trask.

The Bucs will likely add a veteran in free agency and may take a quarterback in the draft. Since they made the playoffs, the Bucs hold the 19th overall pick and may have to trade up in the draft to get a good quarterback prospect.
