Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus was already under heavy fire from fans for contributing to the Bears' five-game losing streak despite having the top pick in this year's draft in his arsenal. Now, his crucial mistake in their Thanksgiving loss to the Lions has added more fuel to the fire.

With the Bears trailing 23-20, Matt Eberflus made a decision that ended up extending their losing streak to six. In the final few seconds of the game, with the ball in the Bears' hands and rookie QB Caleb Williams taking a sack, Eberflus did not call a timeout to stop the clock. Williams threw a deep pass that resulted in an incompletion in the final play as time expired.

Chicago fans took to X (formerly, Twitter) to express their disappointment in the HC and made calls for him to be fired. One fan called Eberflus a "disgrace" after his recent gaffe.

"@ChicagoBears FIRE F*****G EBERFLUS NOW!!!!!!! THIS IS A DISGRACE!!!!!!!"

Another fan said that Eberflus' decision to not use the remaining timeout would go down in football history as the worst time management.

"That was the worst clock management of all time 🤣"

Other fans also chimed in with their disapproval of their head coach and demanded that he be removed from the organization.

"He needs to be fired TOMORROW if not earlier," one fan called for him to be fired as early as the morning after Thanksgiving Thursday.
"He has to go! No excuses at all!" another fan said that Matt Eberflus had to be fired.
"Not his first MAJOR mistake with clock management." another fan commented.

Meanwhile, one fan criticized the Lions while also taking a shot at Eberflus.

"The lions f**k around and got lucky that Matt Eberflus can’t coach," one fan remarked that the Lions simply won because Eberflus was not their HC.

Bears HC Matt Eberflus defends his decision to not call a timeout

After the game, Eberflus took the podium and took questions from the reporters regarding his decision to not use the timeout at such a crucial moment in the game.

"We were outside the field goal range, you know, so we needed to get a few more yards in there, as close as we can get, and then we're going to call time out, and that's why we held that last time out at the end of the game."

With the loss, Chicago has dropped to 4-8, last place in the very competitive NFC North. Meanwhile, the Lions improved to 11-1, the best record in the NFL.
