Now-retired NFL quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has detailed how he was nearly brought out of retirement last season.
Having hung up the cleats at the end of the 2021 season, many thought "Big Ben" didn't have much left in the tank. Well, one team thought he did, and that was the San Francisco 49ers, who reportedly tried to sign the once-star quarterback.
Per Dov Kleiman, Roethlisberger said during an interview with Mark Madden on 105.9 The X that the 49ers tried to sign him, but he couldn't see himself in another uniform. NFL fans reacted to the news with one fan saying that had Roethisberger signed with San Francisco, they would have been one-and-done in the postseason:

"Would’ve been first round exits if they had him."

Other NFL fans gave their thoughts on what would have been a massive move for the 49ers.
So, it appears that most NFL fans can't agree on this piece of news from Roethlisberger. At the end of his Pittsburgh Steelers career, it was evident, from the outside at least, that his career was coming to an end.
But the thought of Big Ben in a 49ers uniform is odd to think about.
Could Ben Roethlisberger have helped the 49ers?

Perhpas Ben Roethlisberger could have helped the San Francisco 49ers. We saw what kind of player he was in his last year with the Steelers. It looked like Father Time had caught up with him as his arm strength wasn't what it used to be.
But ...
A stacked 49ers roster could have required the veteran quarterback to sit back and simply manage things. That makes the mind wonder. Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Brando Aiyuk are all superb at run-after-the-catch.
Roethlisberger could easily have worked with some quick, easy throws to get those receivers into space, not to mention the running game with McCaffrey as well.
In theory, it feels like something could have worked, but we will never know. But it sure is fun to think about what-if with Ben Roethlisberger and the 49ers.
