Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers are in the middle of a tough year. After three years of reaching at least the conference championship, they are now with a 5-6 record and out of the playoff picture. And it looks like it'll get worse before it gets better.
The 49ers have lost two straight games, and with Brock Purdy unlikely to play against the Buffalo Bills, they could be up for a third straight defeat. There are many fans who are questioning the head coach in 2024, with the most radical opinions calling for his firing.
But for former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, those calls are all nonsense.
Yeah, it's absolutely insane. First of all, put your name behind it. Who started? What started the rumor? Because you do not know football, and I don't like saying that a lot, but he is easily one of the top two or three coaches. Shanahan has been to four NFC Championship games, two Super Bowls. The losses? I get it, but who are you going to replace him with? I get it, there's some stuff going on this year. 2020 was the year they played, like, 15 quarterbacks, I think they won six games. 2019, Super Bowl. 2020, that year. 2021, NFC Championship. 2022, NFC Championship Game. 2023, Super Bowl. And this year is a year of injuries.
The number of injuries for the 49ers this season is massive. Christian McCaffrey lost half of the season, Brock Purdy is likely to miss his second straight game, while players like Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Javon Hargrave and Dre Greenlaw all lost time at some points of the season.
What's Kyle Shanahan's record with the San Francisco 49ers?
In his eighth season with the franchise, he holds a 69-57 record overall, with three seasons with a negative record and four others where he reached, at least, the conference championship.
Shanahan led the 49ers to two Super Bowl appearances, but in both games, they were victims of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. His record in the postseason is 8-4.
