New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers wasn't happy with Brian Daboll after Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Monday morning, the New York Giants head coach addressed his wide receiver's comments and took accountability.
Daboll told reporters that he spoke with Nabers after Sunday's game as well as first thing Monday morning. The Giants head coach then went on to say that the rookie wide receiver is competitive and that the Giants offense needs to get the ball in his hands in order to make plays happen.
“He’s a very competitive individual. Want to get the ball in his hands and I’ve got to do a better job of getting the ball in his hands early,” Daboll said Monday morning.
Brian Daboll said that as the offensive play-caller, he needs to do a better job of getting Nabers opportunities to make something happen. The Giants have lost the last six games and are now 2-9 on the season.
What did Giants WR Malik Nabers say after Sunday's loss?
Entering Week 12, the New York Giants parted ways with Daniel Jones and turned to Tommy DeVito to start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Giants lost, 30-7, and rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers had six catches on nine targets for a total of 64 receiving yards.
After the team's sixth straight loss, Nabers was not happy with his lack of production and vented to reporters. The wide receiver was unhappy that he didn't have one target in the first half and felt that by the time he got an opportunity the game was out of reach.
"Go out there first, second quarter, don't get the ball. Start getting targets at the end. I mean, can't do that. Start getting the ball when it's 30-0. What do you want me to do?" Nabers told reporters on Sunday.
Malik Nabers then redirected the questions back to head coach Brian Daboll:
"I don't know. Talk to Daboll about that."
The former LSU standout said that he believed the issue was clearly not at the quarterback position because the change didn't make any difference. The New York Giants have a short week to work out their issues. They will be at AT&T Stadium to face the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
