Anthony Richardson’s rookie season did not go as planned. The young quarterback injured his shoulder in the Week 5 game against the Titans. Now, the front office at Indianapolis Colts is viewing the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft as an opportunity to bring Richardson up to speed.

Colts general manager Chirs Ballard has put all his chips on Richardson after drafting him in the first round last year. Even though the injury shortened his rookie season, Colts management has faith in the 21-year-old by drafting the necessary weapons this time around.

GM Ballard was discussing the potential in the upcoming draft with the Indianapolis Star and he let the cat out of the bag that the Colts are focused on offensive power this season. While also building a strong unit around Richardson. GM Ballard said:

“I do think you’re going to see a lot of offensive players taken early in the first round. I’m not saying it’s a weak defensive draft, but it’s a really strong offensive draft. Especially at the top of it.”
“I truly believe you’re going to get a really good player in those middle rounds, and even some later, because of the depth of the group," Ballard added.
"Wideout is very similar, it is excellent. When you’ve got a young quarterback, you’ve got to protect him. You want to continue to add playmakers around him.”

Anthony Richardson is one for the future

The Colts have found a franchise QB in Anthony Richardson; his talent and skill have been displayed thoroughly in his collegiate career. The University of Florida graduate became the third-ever QB to get a perfect Relative Athletic Score (RAS) score at the Columbine last year.

Even though he managed to play only four games last season, Richardson exemplified his dual-threat QB nature. Scoring three TDs via passing and four by rushing. This season will be a true test for the youngster in the NFL with the big boys.
