Shedeur Sanders finds himself fighting for his future in the NFL following the 2025 NFL draft. Initially a projected first-round prospect, Coach Prime's son ended up being the sixth quarterback to be picked in the draft. The Cleveland Browns acquired Shedeur in the fifth round after spending their third-round pick to get ex-Oregon quarterback, Dillon Gabriel.
Apart from the rookies, the Browns also acquired veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in the offseason. With Deshaun Watson recovering from his injury, Sanders finds himself in a four-way competition on the quarterback depth chart. While there are doubts about his chances of becoming the QB1 in Week 1, NFL analyst Aaron Goldhammer believes in Shedeur's chances.
On Thursday, Goldhammer discussed Shedeur Sanders' rookie campaign with the Browns. He said there is a possibility fans might see him take over as the team's starting quarterback in Week 1.

"I have come to a realization, oh boy, by the time we get to September, I think Tony Grossi's wrong," Goldhammer said. "I think there's a way Shedeur Sanders starts the first game.

"Now that I've seen some vidoes and talked to a bunch of people and multiple practices, I think Shedeur Sanders was the best quarterback out there yesterday. I think now Shedeur is putting the draft slide behind him and showing why Mel Kiper thought he was the best quarterback in this draft," he added.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Sanders had missed out on 11-on-11 drills with the teams while the rest of the quarterbacks participated in them. This raised questions about his future with the Browns. However, coach Kevin Stefanski came forward to clear the air, saying Sanders had participated in the drills in other practices.
Ex-NFL star expresses confidence in Shedeur Sanders' skills
On Thursday, former NFL star Robert Griffin III shared a clip of Shedeur Sanders during his practice session with the Cleveland Browns. He accompanied the post with some positive words for the rookie.
"RGIII" said Sanders had all the talent to go as a first-round quarterback in the draft. He also highlighted the strengths in his game that could prove beneficial during his stint in the league.
"When you watch all the clips of Shedeur Sanders, you see why his tape said he was a 1st Round QB," Griffin wrote. "He plays with NFL timing and rhythm, reads with his feet, plays ahead of the defense, has more than enough arm strength and knowns how to layer the ball."
Sanders has a tough road ahead of him if he wants to become the team's QB1 as a rookie. Only time will tell if Stefanski decides to put his faith in him rather than the other veteran options on the depth chart.
