"He's a damn good football coach" - Multiple NFL analysts' take on Broncos' decision to appoint Nathaniel Hackett as their HC hasn't aged well at all

Kansas City Chiefs v Denver Broncos
Hackett did not last a single full season on the job

The Denver Broncos decided to fire Nathaniel Hackett before his first season as a head coach even came to an end. While Hackett's hiring was clearly a mistake, it did not look like this back in January, when Denver announced that he was going to be their next head coach.

Hackett did a very good job as the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers and many analysts were impressed by his hiring.

Since Hackett's firing was announced, Twitter has been quick to dunk on some of the worst opinions made in January about the coach. Independent reporter Dov Kleiman reminded everybody of the Broncos' hype video, with Chris Simms' take highlighted.

Freezing Cold Takes, an account made to remember awful sports takes made on Twitter, also shared an opinion by Peter Schrager:

We can all be wrong on some opinions, but to be this wrong when you're an analyst? A Twitter roast might be a good punishment.

Why did the Broncos fire Nathaniel Hackett?

Hackett's firing was proof of how badly the Broncos messed up their previous head coach search. He never looked prepared to be an NFL head coach during his quick tenure in Denver.

His in-game management was poor from the first game and did not improve as the year went on. Some of his decisions on fourth down were confusing and left much to be desired. As a former offensive coordinator, everybody expected the ball to fly high, but Denver had one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

His failure to make the most of Russell Wilson's qualities was also a big problem during his 15-game tenure. While Wilson's individual level dropped massively, the offense as a whole was pedestrian at best.

Broncos players also fought on the sidelines during the Christmas game against the Los Angeles Rams, which ended in a humiliating 51-14 defeat.

All in all, the Colorado outfit assumed that they made a mistake and thus acted quickly to correct it and get it right for 2023.
