Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement once to help Tom Brady win another Super Bowl. However, by his own admission, the legendary tight end wasn't seriously considering another blockbuster return to the NFL in the 2022 season.

While speaking to Rob Maaddi on the AP Pro Football Podcast, Gronkowski stated that the thought of another reunion with Brady would be 'pretty cool'. But the 33-year-old was never inclined towards getting back on the field.

When asked if he thought about potentially rejoining Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season, Gronkowski said:

"There was a point, you know. Football's always been in my heart. I thought about it a few times. I wasn't really close. My whole mindset, it needed to be flipped if that's what I was gonna do. But it never got to that point."

The four-time Super Bowl winner then added that the thought of another spectacular return did excite him. However, Gronkowski was still happy to be working as an analyst instead.

"There were a couple of thoughts and I was like, 'Oh, how cool would that be. Making plays and helping the team out by winning some games'. It came to my mind, but never to a point where I thought I had to do it. I enjoyed doing the analyst bit at Fox so never really pulled the trigger."

Will Rob Gronkowski reunite with Tom Brady in the 2023 NFL season?

Although Rob Gronkowski ruled out a return to the league in the 2022 season, he still left the door open to making a comeback later in 2023. Just last month, reports claimed that the five-time Pro Bowler is considering a reunion with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The future Hall of Famer, however, struggled with injuries in his final season with the Buccaneers. Gronkowski announced his second retirement in June 2022 after waffling back and forth on whether to play this season.

To make matters interesting, Brady's deal with Tampa Bay expires at the end of the season. Many believe that Gronkowski's decision to return will hinge on Brady's future in the NFL.
