The legendary late punter Ray Guy is the only punter in the NFL Hall of Fame. Guy was a unique punting specialist and changed the position forever. He became one of the league's most consistent positional players in the 1970's and 1980's. Guy played in a position that didn't and still doesn't get the love, adulation, and respect that other positions receive.

Ray Guy put up some absurd stats throughout his career. He recorded 1,049 career punts, with only three being blocked. He also happens to be one of the best punting specialists in history, winning three Super Bowls with the Oakland Raiders. Ray Guy punted for more than 3,000 yards across nine seasons and once for more than 4,000. He led the league in punting for three campaigns and played in seven Pro Bowls.

The NFL Hall of Fame is extremely difficult for punters to get into. Each year, a handful of punting specialists are nominated for enshrinement. However, only one punter has had the privilege of entry. 2023 will see five punting specialists nominated for Hall of Fame honors. The former punters are Jeff Feagles, Sean Landeta, Shane Lechler, Pat McAfee, and Matt Turk.

Despite how great these players were, it will be a tall order to expect one or more of them to be enrolled. We will keep our fingers crossed.

Are there any current punters who might make it to the NFL Hall of Fame?

No current NFL punting specialist looks destined for the NFL Hall of Fame. No current punters have the accolades or stats that suggest a Hall of Fame career. If the NFL starts giving punters more credit, then perhaps things will change. If not, we might be a few decades away from a punting specialist having his bust up there with the greats.
