The Dallas Cowboys picked up just their fifth win of the season on Thanksgiving, condemning the New York Giants to the worst record in the NFL. The Cowboys showed some fight with Cooper Rush under center and a 27-20 win means Mike McCarthy has earned himself some breathing room in the headlines for another week.

Or so we thought. In an interview with TMZ this week, Hall of Famer quarterback Brett Favre was asked for his thoughts on Mike McCarthy's future and potentially the hottest name on the coaching block - Deion Sanders - replacing Mike McCarthy in the offseason.

"If he does go in the direction of firing Mike McCarthy, which I have no idea which way he's leaning, Deion may have a shot to step in there," Favre said.

Favre added that he thinks the world of 'Coach Prime:'

"I know him personally. So, I know what kind of character he has."

For his part, Sanders has been vocal about wanting to stay back in Boulder to shape another team to compete in 2025, while his son Shedeur Sanders lines up in the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanders, alongside his teammate, Heisman frontrunner Travis Hunter, are both expected to be top-10 picks in the upcoming draft in April.

Head coach candidates Cowboys could have their eye on

Two big names frequently linked with the Cowboys are Deion Sanders and Bill Belichick.

The former Patriots head coach has a pretty good relationship with Cowboys ownership and is also on the quest to become the winningest head coach in NFL history. Another name to keep an eye on could be former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who is currently with the Cleveland Browns as a personnel consultant.

The Cowboys have historically looked away from hiring up-and-coming names so it could very well come down to Belichick and Vrabel should they part ways with McCarthy in the offseason.

However, The Athletic's NFL insider Dianna Russini believes McCarthy won't be out of a job for too long. In her Scoop City podcast this week, Russini claimed McCarthy would surely get a few interviews in 2025 given the state of vacancies across the board.
