“I’ve really enjoyed it” - Broncos players excited about new head coach leading Russell Wilson in wake of Nathaniel Hackett firing

The Denver Broncos have a new head coach this week. Nathaniel Hackett has been fired, and Jerry Rosburg took his place. The previous head coach received a lot of attention, but the new head coach will be hoping to steal the show this weekend with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the leadup to the game, Rosburg's players gave their initial reviews of the interim head coach, according to Denver Broncos.com. Put simply, they were glowing. Safety Kareem Jackson and offensive guard Dalton Risner gave their first impressions. Here's what Jackson had to say:

"We obviously kind of know his background a little bit, he shared it with us, but thus far, I think he's been doing a good job. Just kind of relaying the messages of what he expects from everybody."

Here's what Risner, the guard that was part of the sideline scuffle during the blowout loss to the Rams, had to say:

"I'm a big fan of Jerry... He's very on it... You have to respect him for that... Just seeing how well he's stepped into this role and how he's taken it upon him to get the most out of us and get this thing rolling, I respect him a ton. I've really enjoyed it... We're really trying to just buy into what Jerry is doing."

How did Broncos HC Jerry Rosburg come to lead Russell Wilson?

When the 2022 season kicked off, Rosburg had not yet joined the team. He was initially hired by Nathaniel Hackett, a rookie head coach, to help manage late-game situations after a few weeks of struggle. Once the Christmas Day Massacre happened several months later, the head coach was fired. As soon as that took place, the team worked to find their interim head coach.

According to Broncos Wire, star defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero was considered for the position, but he turned it down in order to continue focusing on coaching the defense. With Evero out, the opportunity fell on the lap of Rosburg, who accepted.

With two games left in a lost season against two playoff teams, the Broncos will be hoping to pull off two upsets and finish the season on a high note. At 4-11, the team is also hoping to worsen the draft picks that they handed to Seattle for Russell Wilson.
