Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills took a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. While there are many factors that led to the loss, Allen's play is one of them. While nursing an elbow injury, the quarterback threw for over 300 yards but turned the ball over three times.
Two of those turnovers could not have been more costly. He fumbled the snap at his own goal-line following a stop with less than a minute remaining. The recovery gave Minnesota the lead.

His second interception ended the game with the Bills threatening to tie. They had the ball near the end zone when Josh Allen forced a throw to the goal line. Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson was just one of several defenders in the area, and he intercepted the pass, sealing the game.
Allen had a very up-and-down game yesterday, and the two late turnovers were poor. NFL fans took note that after a few less than stellar performances lately, Josh Allen seems to be immune from criticism. Several other quarterbacks are called out regularly whenever they make an error.
Lamar Jackson, in particular, routinely gets called a running back when he struggles. NFL fans are wondering when the same criticism will be levied against the Bills star:
The loss dropped the Bills to 6-3 and put them in third place in the AFC East. It is an unfathomable position this late in the year for a team that was widely considered the Super Bowl favorites. However, at 6-3 this just shows the strength of the AFC East in this campaign.
How bad did the loss to the Vikings hurt for Allen and the Bills?
This was a prime opportunity for the Bills to justify all the preseason hype they received. As preseason Super Bowl favorites, they were 6-2. They beat the Kansas City Chiefs, but had suffered a few defeats too. The Vikings now have the second-best record in football, a real turn out for the books.

Beating them, which seemed like a near guarantee after they built up a 17-point lead, would have cemented Buffalo as an elite team.
The loss stings and tarnishes that, but it doesn't do a ton to their overall playoff or Super Bowl chances. FiveThirtyEight's projection model still has them as the favorites to win the division, despite losing to the Miami Dolphins head-to-head and trailing them by one game now.
The Bills have a 49% chance of winning the East, while the Dolphins have a 36% chance.
Winning the Super Bowl is still realistic, too. They have the third-best chances to win the big game at 12%, behind the Chiefs (21%) and the Philadelphia Eagles (19%). The Vikings are fourth at 9% despite the win.
It will be interesting to see if these predictions hold any water come the end of the season.
