Remember when Joe Flacco dragged the Cleveland Browns to the NFL playoffs? No, that wasn't a dream. It actually happened. And it was pretty fun while it lasted.
Flacco played in five games for the Browns last year with the franchise in desperate need of a quarterback. He led them to four wins and a playoff spot. All in all, Flacco's comeback bid was a pretty decent one. With Week 1 of the NFL season just about wrapped up, here's what Flacco is up to this year.
Is Joe Flacco still playing football?
In what was a pretty surprising move, the Browns opted against retaining Joe Flacco despite his late-season heroics last year. With Deshaun Watson returning from a shoulder injury, Cleveland decided to go with Jameis Winston as the backup quarterback. But Flacco wasn't left in the lurch for too long.

The Indianapolis Colts saw an opportunity and took it, bringing Flacco to town to serve as Anthony Richardson's backup. Richardson, the former Florida Gators quarterback, missed most of last season with after suffering an injury in his A/C joint in his right shoulder in Week 5. He then had to undergo season-ending surgery but he is back in 2024 and put on a show and then some in Week 1.
But back to Flacco.
The Colts were rightly concerned about Richardson's recovery but clearly have a contingency plan in case he goes down with another injury.
Joe Flacco's 2023 season in review
Looking back, it's pretty remarkable how Flacco was able to step into a new offense and propel the Browns to the playoffs.
Along the way, he also took home a cool $75,000 in December after beating the Aaron Rodgers-less New York Jets to cement a spot in the playoffs. In five games with the Browns, Flacco completed 123-of-204 passes for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns.
He was also crowned the Comeback Player of the Year for his efforts.
