Quarterback Dak Prescott and owner Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys as a whole have come under heavy criticism for their loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 10.

Jones and Prescott were recently discussed on ESPN's First Take. Stephen A. Smith said the longtime Cowboys owner has no other option but to openly support his quarterback despite the loss and "take the posture."

Smith said:

"So he could take that position and y'all could listen to exactly what he said. I'm not saying he's lying. But what else is he supposed to say? Is he supposed to sit up there and say in [Cooper] Rush I trust? I don't care about Dak Prescott. Is that what he's supposed to say? Stop it."

Smith added:

"The fact of the matter is Jerry Jones is going to take the posture that he's going to take because he has no choice. I'm, listen, I don't have anything good. That's my brother, right? It's them damn Cowboy fans."

Smith was very critical of Prescott's performance in the Cowboys' Week 10 loss to the Packers. The two-time Pro Bowler threw for 265 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in the overtime loss. The ESPN personality said that the quarterback is the Cowboys' weak link, provoking the Dallas owner to respond.

Jerry Jones speaks in defense of Dak Prescott after Smith's comments

In his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones heard what Smith said about Dak Prescott and fired back.

Jones said:

“I can say that’s not correct. The reason that I – not the reason, that’s unfair to Dak and all the players on the team – but the strength that I look at of our chance to win a championship is Dak and his leadership at that position."

So far in the 2022-23 season, Prescott has thrown for 856 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions. However, the 2016-17 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year missed four games this season due to a right thumb injury.

The former Mississippi State Bulldogs star is yet to lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. We'll see if Jerry Jones is right about Prescott and if the quarterback can lead them there this season.
