Shannon Sharpe believes Cowboys should’ve pulled the trade trigger on Texans star

The Dallas Cowboys did not make any moves at this year's NFL trade deadline and NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe believes that was a mistake. There was a lack of wide receiver deals done yesterday, despite their and many other teams' potential need for one.

Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks was one of the top targets at the deadline, but he remains in Houston after the deadline passed. Dallas (who let Amari Cooper leave during the offseason) could have used his services, according to Sharpe.

On Undisputed, Sharpe told Cowboys superfan Skip Bayless as much:

“The Cowboys average 191 yards passing per game.... [Cooks] is a bonafide deep threat.... I know he's small, Skip... Somebody 5'8, 5'9 has six, 1,000 yards seasons in eight seasons in the NFL... All I know is that the man produces... Jerry Jones should’ve made the move."

Sharpe noted that this was one of the most active trade deadlines in recent memory. Anyone who remotely considered themselves a contender was interested in making deals, but the Cowboys failed to land anyone.

NFL Trade Deadline: Why did the Cowboys stick rather than twist?

The failure to add Brandin Cooks was the most glaring lack of a move yesterday, but Dallas didn't just ignore the wide receiver position. They ignored everything. Jerry Jones said they had a few deals working, but nothing happened.

There are a few reasons why they stood pat. First, they may not have been able to reach a deal. While they needed Cooks, they probably didn't want to overpay for what would be their second wide receiver.

They may also like where their team is at. They have CeeDee Lamb, Noah Brown and Michael Gallup and clearly, they're not all that worried about the offense with Dak Prescott back and healthy.

They beat the New York Giants without Prescott and played well against the Philadelphia Eagles. They are probably confident in their ability to win games with Prescott and the cohort of wide receivers they have. There's no telling why exactly they didn't pull the trigger, but those are a few reasons it's possible. Time will tell if they regret that decision.
