Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals were driving down the field in the first quarter against the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 when Damar Hamlin collapsed.
It was a traumatizing event for all involved, especially those on the Bills who knew and had been playing all season with Hamlin, the second-year safety.
Burrow and the Bengals just happened to be on the field when it happened, which was just as jarring according to the quarterback:
"That was tough. Knowing that could have been any one of us in that same situation, you know, as a football hit that happens just about every single play."
He continued:
"What was so scary about it was because you see yourself in that situation, you see Ja'Marr in that situation, you see every single one of your guys in that situation. And that's a scary moment that you didn't really know what was happening in that moment, too. And so we just tried to show unity, show love and show support."
He finished by saying:
"You always know that's a possibility. You know, until something like that happens, you think you know, it's a possibility, but you don't really think it's gonna happen. And now it's happened. That's just always in the back your mind."
Most NFL players do know there's a huge risk involved with playing the game, but none of them had seen what happened to Damar Hamlin before.
For Joe Burrow, he's still going to go out and give the game his all, but he's got that thought looming in the back of his mind. It's probably much the same for everyone on the field that night.

Without Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens were very close to taking a seven-point leadearly in the fourth quarter.
From the two-yard-line, the Ravens fumbled, which allowed Sam Hubbard to take the ball 98 yards the other way for the lead, which held up.
Joe Burrow and the offense were able to keep the ball long enough to limit chances and the Bengals survived the major upset bid.
