Julio Jones fantasy outlook: should you drop him?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Julio Jones remains questionable for the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Jones has only played in Week 1 and Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs this season. Jones has missed the last two consecutive games against the Atlanta Falcons and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Julio Jones suffered a knee injury in the Week 1 game against the Cowboys. He was ruled out of the game for the next two weeks but returned to play in Week 4 against the Chiefs. In those two games, Jones made four receptions for 76 yards and no touchdowns. Due to his injury, it's unclear whether or not he will produce a high number of fantasy points this year.

Though it doesn't look good right now and the Buccaneers have a deep receiver room, don't drop Julio Jones just yet. He might be out for a further week or two, but he will return. If you have him on your fantasy roster, you should keep him as your backup option until he makes a comeback.

Julio Jones is playing his 12th season in the NFL with the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay are currently 3-3 this season and are looking to make a strong comeback. The Buccaneers are taking all the precautionary measures and are keeping Jones out of the game until he recovers fully. At the advancing age of 33, they will likely take care with him throughout the season.

The reason you should keep hold of Jones, rather than abandon him, is that there is a chance he will move up the depth chart. Chris Godwin has just returned from a serious ACL tear, and there are always concerns about that kind of injury reoccuring. Mike Evans is also a player that takes a lot of frequent contact and, though he seldom misses games, could do so this season.

Keeping Julio Jones and using him for favorable matchups or in the event of Tampa Bay injuries is a solid tactic. If you are in 12+ player leagues, there isn't a whole lot of options available on waivers to replace him with.

Last season, he started in all ten games and had 31 receptions for 434 yards and scored one touchdown. He missed a few games last season because of a hamstring injury and scored just 49 fantasy points (averaging 4.9 points per game).

The seven-time Pro-Bowler had his breakout season in 2015. In that campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, he recorded 136 receptions for 1,871 yards and eight touchdowns. Since the 2018 season, his performance graph has gone down but still has the caliber to play an outstanding game for the Buccaneers.
