Kyren Williams injury update: When will he return?

NFL Combine
Kyren Williams is nursing an injury

Kyren Williams is a rookie running back for the defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams drafted him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft to fill a slot on their notoriously thin running back depth chart.

Williams might look a little undersized for his position, but that did not stop him from bagging a slew of awards playing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in his sole season there.

Williams only played one game for the Los Angeles Rams before he picked up a high ankle sprain. The injury required surgery, and the rookie running back went under the knife immediately. The Rams labeled the surgery a success, and Williams was placed on injured reserve on September 13, 2022.

Williams is slated to return from this injury in six to eight weeks, barring unforeseen circumstances or setbacks.

Should you trade Kyren Williams?

Kyren Williams is in his first season of professional football, and for the time being, he is third on the depth chart at the Los Angeles Rams. He is behind Darrell Henderson and Cam Akers (for now).

It is important to note that LA Rams coach Sean McVay did not draft Williams to sit on the bench. Rather, he was brought in to give Henderson significant competition for the starting role. Hence, it is truly unfortunate that the rookie running back picked up an injury in his first few weeks of professional action.

Williams is a solid option for an NFL contender, thanks to his pace, tenacity, football IQ, and intangibles. However, you can only be useful in the NFL Fantasy League if you are fit for selection.

As such, it is advisable to trade out Kyren Williams for a fit and effective running back.

Kyren Williams timeline

Kyren Williams might not be a household name in the NFL just yet, but he is a legend in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended St. John Vianney High School and broke several records along the way.

Following a stellar high school football career, he was offered a football scholarship to attend Notre Dame and play for the Fighting Irish.

Williams bossed the Atlantic Coast Conference, and he finished the season with 1,125 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 211 carries while also catching 35 passes for 313 yards and one touchdown.

These stats earned him national recognition, and an eventual fifth-round (164th overall) selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
