Cowboys' Odell Beckham Jr. pursuit appears to be over

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones delivered yet another update on their pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. this week. Jones, who's been in the thick of recruiting the Super Bowl-winning WR to Dallas, spoke to 105.3 The Fan and discussed a possible move for OBJ.

Here's what he said:

“Let’s just leave it where it is. The more weeks that go by as you get toward the playoffs…it diminishes the chance of him being able to play in the playoffs.”

Jones' words do not bode well for the Cowboys faithful, especially with the offense struggling to get going with Dak Prescott under center. Many had been hopeful that Odell Beckham Jr. would have signed for the franchise by now, and this feels like an admission that it isn't going to happen.

Jerry Jones appears to have all but confirmed that the Cowboys are nowhere near confirming a deal with OBJ.

Earlier this month, when the franchise signed veteran WR T.Y. Hilton to the roster, it was thought their pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. was over. It turns out, there were rumors that Jones reached out to Beckham right after signing Hilton. Jones reportedly spoke directly to OBJ to discuss a possible signing.

According to one rumor, Jones asked Hilton:

"How would you feel if we signed Beckham, too?"

Earlier this month, Jerry Jones also hooked up OBJ with seats for the Dallas Mavericks game. Rumors of a possible Cowboys move then went into overdrive after the former Rams star was spotted entering the arena alongside Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs.

That, however, appears to have been a false dawn for Dallas fans. The Cowboys are set to enter their Week 16 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles without the receiver on board. This is not entirely surprising as OBJ's fitness is very much a concern, not just for Dallas, but for all the franchises interested.

For now, it seems Beckham will remain unsigned as the postseason creeps closer. With the Cowboys already guaranteed a playoff spot, they are now looking to win out and potentially take the NFC East title. As it stands, Dallas will travel to Florida for a Wild Card matchup with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
